Job summary

YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit's Macomb Family YMCA is seeking a Group Ex Instructor (Les Mills) to lead inclusive, energetic wellness classes in a safe, welcoming environment. You will teach Les Mills Tone and other formats, ensure correct technique, and adapt to all fitness levels while upholding the YMCA's mission and fostering member engagement.

Required certifications include CPR, First Aid, AED, and a current national personal training certification; Les Mills certification is preferred.

Qualifications

• CPR, First Aid and AED certifications required.
• National personal training certification required or in progress.
• Les Mills Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Leads energizing, safe group classes for all fitness levels.
• Answers questions and provides guidance during sessions.
• Keeps up with wellness trends to support members.
• Adapts classes to accommodate diverse abilities and needs.

General Function

The Group Ex Instructor (Les Mills) will be responsible for instructing group training classes in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment that welcomes people of all skill and fitness levels.

Education/Experience/Training/Certifications

• Required certifications: Area of Expertise, CPR, First Aid, AED, national certification (ACSM, ACE, AFAA, ISSA, NASM, NESTA, NETA, NPTI, NSCA) in personal training

• LesMills Certification - LES MILLS TONE offers a blend of cardio, strength and core exercises to appeal to a broad audience. The choreography offers plenty of modifications, meaning participants can tailor the workout to suit their needs.

• 1 year of experience teaching group wellness classes is preferred, not required

• Proven knowledge of exercise science, movement coaching, and movement competency

• Completion of YMCA Healthy Lifestyles certification within 60 days of hire

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed, to accomplish YMCA mission and goals

• Asks and answers questions within their scope of knowledge from participants and members

• Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members

• Observes and adjusts approach to support all participants’ capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture

• Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor
