Job summary

The Legislative Services Agency is seeking a Computer Systems Developer to create, modify, and maintain applications, databases, and webpages for the Iowa General Assembly. This onsite role requires strong analytical and communication skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or Information Services or at least four years of relevant work experience is required. Beginning annual salary is $62,753.60, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's in Computer Science or Information Services, or four years of relevant work experience.
• Ability to handle heavy workload under tight deadlines and prioritize workload.
• Onsite position only; overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain computer application programs for the Legislature.
• Develop, test, and maintain databases for the Legislature.
• Interpret program specifications and develop reports and code; prepare documentation.
• Determine symptoms and causes of process problems and resolve them.
• Interpret program specifications and develop/modify structure diagrams, flow charts, and pseudo code to depict the logical flow of programs.
• Develop code using language and tools outlined in program specifications and documents in programs.
• Test programs and review results to detect and correct errors.
• Display initiative, attention to detail, and commitment by completing assignments efficiently with minimal supervision.
• Follow policy, cooperate with supervisors, and align behavior with the goals of the organization.
• Exchange information with individuals or groups effectively by listening and responding appropriately.
• Overtime may be required with limited compensatory time provided.
