The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Government Affairs Division seeks a highly organized Legislative Program Coordinator to join our team. You will provide essential support for transportation and legislative research, organize documents, manage projects, and coordinate activities affecting TxDOT policies and programs.

Strong analytical, communication, and time-management skills are required to succeed in a fast-paced environment interacting with state and federal policymakers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline.
  • 2 years of experience in project, program, or legislative coordination; experience may be substituted by graduate education.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes incoming legislative correspondence, reports and materials; monitors hearings and floor action.
  • Attends meetings and provides analysis, written summaries and debriefings to staff.
  • Maintains files/records/logs and tracks progress to meet due dates.
  • Researches and compiles information to assist with projects, presentations and correspondence.
  • Assists in developing and executing a wide range of legislative resources and activities.
  • Supports speeches, policy research, internal and external meeting coordination and correspondence.

Performs a wide variety of project coordination and legislative support work for TxDOT Government Affairs Division. Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information. Work requires extensive contact with TxDOT districts, divisions, governmental officials, and private entities. Works with Government Affairs Business Operations Manager, Directors of State Legislative Affairs and Federal Affairs Sections. Reports to the Director of the Government Affairs Division. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objective. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.


Essential Duties:


  • Analyzes incoming legislative correspondence, reports and other materials related to administrative areas; monitor and report on legislative hearings and floor action; coordinates with appropriate personnel to initiate proper action.

  • Performs the duties of a State and Federal Relations Representative as needed to support the division during extended absences or vacancies.

  • Attends meetings, provides analysis, written summary and debriefing of a meeting's activities to Government Affairs Division staff and/or Administration.

  • Maintains files/records/logs, tracks progress of activities and coordinates work to meet due dates.

  • Researches and compiles information to assist the state and federal Government Affairs Division staff with a variety of projects, presentations, and correspondence.

  • Assists in the development, execution, and completion of a wide spectrum of special projects, including legislative educational resources.

  • Assists Government Affairs Division staff with speeches, policy research, internal and external meeting coordination and execution, and correspondence.

  • Collects and summarizes legislative related information from staff, local partners, subject matter experts and other relevant sources.

  • Provides updates to the Director of the Government Affairs Division on significant department events, projects, and programs.

  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in any discipline.


Experience: 2 years of experience in project, program, or legislative coordination, or related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications


Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:


  • Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
