Office of Insurance Commissioner (OIC) seeks a Legislative Director who will align policy priorities with Washington’s insurance framework. As a key adviser to the Insurance Commissioner, you will steer the agency’s legislative agenda, coordinate with the Governor’s Office, and engage legislators and staff to advance strategic objectives.

Qualifications

• Nine (9) years of full-time professional work experience.
• Knowledge of state legislative processes.
• Experience as principal advisor to executive staff on policy and potential legislative activity.
• Coordinating testimony of an agency or business at legislative hearings.
• Three (3) years supervising subordinates.
• Degree substitution allowed for Public Administration, Political Science or related field.

Responsibilities

• Serve as principal legislative advisor to the Insurance Commissioner and executive leadership.
• Lead development and execution of the Commissioner’s legislative agenda.
• Build and maintain relationships with legislators, Governor’s Office, agencies and stakeholders.
• Develop and coordinate legislative proposals and sponsorships.
• Coordinate the agency’s legislative strategy and response to legislation.
• Coordinate testimony and hearing preparation for legislative proceedings.
• Analyze policy issues and provide timely recommendations to leadership.
• Guide proposals and budget actions through the legislative process.
• Serve as the Commissioner’s liaison to legislators and staff.
