Job summary

Cook County State's Attorney's Office is seeking a Legislative Analyst Attorney to research, draft, review, and analyze the legal and operational impacts of proposed legislation. The role reports to the Director of Legislative Affairs and supports the legislative team.

The attorney will coordinate the Legislative Advisory Council, disseminate proposals for review, track feedback, and work with Bureau Chiefs to draft amended statutory language. Occasional hearings in Springfield are expected.

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited institution and Illinois licensure.
  • 7–10 years of combined experience in criminal and civil law.
  • Significant litigation experience in both criminal and civil law.
  • Excellent legal research, writing and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Research, draft, review and analyze the legal and operational impact of proposed legislation.
  • Coordinate Legislative Advisory Council (LAC) and disseminate proposed legislation for review.
  • Track feedback and follow up as legislation is amended or modified.
  • Collaborate with Bureau Chiefs and supervisory staff during legislative review.
  • Appear at hearings in Springfield and participate in legislative meetings with legislators and stakeholders.
  • Develop presentations and trainings for internal and external stakeholders after legislation passes.
  • Draft policy aligned with legislative changes with the Director of Policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
