Job summary

The Tennessee General Assembly seeks dynamic Bill Clerks for a full-time temporary role from December 2026 through May 2027. The position focuses on tracking and processing bills, maintaining accurate records, and supporting committee hearings and floor sessions for the Senate.

Ideal candidates will have a college degree or legislative experience, strong data entry and organizational skills, and proficiency with legislative tracking software.

Qualifications

• College degree or appropriate legislative experience desired.
• Attention to detail and the ability to handle a large volume of data meticulously.
• Strong organizational abilities to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in using computer systems, databases, and legislative tracking software.
• Familiarity with legislative processes and terminologies (preferred but not required).
• Willingness to adapt to a fast-paced and evolving legislative environment.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage the progress of bills throughout the legislative session, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of their status in bill tracking software.
• Accurately enter bill information and related data into the legislative tracking system.
• Organize and maintain bill documents, amendments and committee reports.
• Provide administrative support during committee hearings, including taking notes and preparing meeting materials.
• Staff all floor sessions and standing committees of the Senate as assigned by the Chief Clerk of the Senate.
• Collaborate with staff and other team members to ensure the legislative process is efficient.
• File bills, resolutions and amendments.
