Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and Paralegal Certificate with 5–15 years litigation firm experience.
  • Experience e-filing in California State and Federal Courts.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Highly organized and discreet with client confidentiality.
  • Proficient in MS Office and familiarity with electronic document management systems.

Responsibilities

  • Format and edit litigation documents for civil pleadings, motions, and briefs.
  • Manage electronic discovery including reviews, coding, and bates numbering.
  • Coordinate with court personnel; file documents in federal/state courts.
  • Attend depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trials; assist with witnesses and tech.
  • Proofread all written work and calendar court deadlines.
  • Organize discovery and pleadings for attorney review.
  • Support conflicts checks, new matter openings, and engagement letters.
  • Assist with firm billing/timekeeping and client bill review.
  • Arrange attorney travel and reimbursements.

Job description

Womble Bond Dickinson LLP (US) has an immediate opening for a hybrid Legal Practice Assistant/Paralegal in their Irvine, California office. This individual would support litigation attorneys, so prior experience is needed. Duties will include a combination of complex litigation practice support as well as traditional administrative responsibilities. This position is required to work on-site Monday - Friday during normal business hours.

Responsibilities
  • Format and edit litigation documents, for civil pleadings, motions, discovery, trial materials and appellate briefs.
  • All aspects of electronic discovery, including the ability to manage document reviews and productions, i.e., loading and coding documents, bates numbering, logging productions, and searching for documents in Relativity Database.
  • Possess knowledge of federal/state electronic court filing procedures and interaction with court personnel.
  • Attend depositions, mediations, arbitrations, and trial, and handling logistics, exhibits, assisting in preparing witnesses and experts, and technology needs relating to same
  • Proofread and review all written work, including correspondence, memos, discovery, and court filings.
  • Calendar court deadlines.
  • Organize discovery, research, pleadings, and other relevant documents for attorney review and case preparation.
  • Manage attorneys’ client, court, and firm administrative obligations and deadlines.
  • Support attorneys’ participation in outside organizations and sponsorship of client development events.
  • Assist attorneys with compliance of firm billing and timekeeping requirements.
  • Review and edit client bills in accordance with client billing requirements.
  • Manage conflicts checks, new client matter openings, engagement letters, and waiver letters.
  • Manage attorneys’ travel portfolios, including making travel arrangements, maintaining travel profiles, developing cost effective travel solutions and calendaring travel.
  • Process expense reimbursements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree and Paralegal Certificate preferred with 5 - 15 years related experience in a mid or large-sized law firm.
  • Must have experience e-filing in California State and Federal Courts.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and to demonstrate the highest level of client service and response.
  • Extremely organized and detail oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate in a proficient, tactful, and confident manner with external clients and coworkers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with electronic document management systems.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and accept responsibility.
  • Value the efficiencies and benefits of working with teams.

COMPENSATION

The estimated salary range for 5-15 years of experience is approximately $75,000-$120,000. Please note that salary may be higher or lower depending upon location and years of experience.
