Job summary

First Community Bancshares, Inc. is seeking a Legal Operations Support professional to process high volumes of regulatory and legal documents and ensure compliance with banking rules.

You will review court orders, communicate with courts and government agencies, and assist with escheatment and unclaimed property matters. A high school diploma and 1–2 years of relevant experience are preferred, with strong MS Office skills and the ability to learn banking software.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-2 years of experience processing legal documents, financial transactions, or banking operations preferred.
  • Proficient with computer systems and software applications.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills and ability to quickly learn new systems required.

Responsibilities

  • Process high volumes of diverse legal documents and orders accurately and timely in accordance with federal, state, and banking regulations.
  • Review and interpret legal documentation, court orders, and government correspondence; conduct necessary legal research to ensure compliance with all applicable laws.
  • Communicate professionally with external parties including courts, law firms, government agencies, and other financial institutions regarding legal requests and timelines.
  • Research account information, process holds/releases, coordinate payments and processing fees, and prepare necessary documentation ensuring all actions comply with Bank policy.
  • Identify and elevate complex or potentially problematic legal matters to management; flag any compliance concerns.
  • Track, log, and maintain records of all incoming legal directives and responses for audit trails.
  • Complete assigned tasks accurately while handling high volumes of sensitive documents.
  • Assist with unclaimed property and escheatment compliance matters, including state regulatory reporting.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements to legal operations workflows.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality; perform other tasks as assigned.
  • Physical requirements: sit for extended periods; operate computer; lift up to 25 pounds.

Job Description
  • Process high volumes of diverse legal documents and orders (garnishments, bankruptcy notices, subpoenas, levy notices, escheatment requests, deceased customer claims, and bank account verification requests) accurately and timely in accordance with federal, state, and banking regulations
  • Review and interpret legal documentation, court orders, and government correspondence; conduct necessary legal research to ensure accurate understanding and compliance with all applicable laws and regulatory requirements
  • Communicate professionally with external parties including courts, law firms, government agencies, and other financial institutions regarding legal requests, providing requested information within applicable timelines and maintaining confidentiality
  • Research account information, process account holds and releases, coordinate payments and processing fees, and prepare necessary documentation ensuring all actions comply with Bank policy and regulatory guidelines
  • Identify and elevate complex, unusual, or potentially problematic legal matters to appropriate management; flag any compliance concerns or inconsistencies
  • Track, log, and maintain organized records of all incoming legal directives and outgoing responses to ensure audit trail and regulatory documentation requirements are met
  • Complete assigned tasks accurately and timely, managing high volumes of sensitive legal documents while maintaining compliance standards
  • Assist with unclaimed property and escheatment compliance matters, including account research and state regulatory reporting
  • Identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements to legal operations workflows
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality
  • Other tasks as assigned

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a sitting stationary position for extended periods of time
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office machinery
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
