About the Role

Our client, a prominent entity within the energy sector operating in Queenstown, Eastern Cape, ZA , is seeking a diligent Legal Officer with expertise in regulatory compliance. This role is instrumental in ensuring the company navigates the complex landscape of energy and environmental regulations effectively. You will be responsible for monitoring legislative changes, advising on compliance strategies, and managing regulatory reporting. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing for both in-office collaboration and remote flexibility. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of regulatory frameworks, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical business solutions. This is a vital role supporting the sustainable and compliant operation of our client's business activities in the region.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards affecting the energy sector.
• Ensure the company's operations and activities comply with all applicable regulatory requirements.
• Develop and implement compliance policies, procedures, and guidelines.
• Conduct compliance audits and risk assessments.
• Advise management and relevant departments on regulatory compliance matters.
• Prepare and submit regulatory reports and applications to government bodies and authorities.
• Assist in responding to regulatory inquiries and investigations.
• Liaise with regulatory agencies and external legal counsel on compliance issues.
• Maintain comprehensive records of compliance activities and documentation.
• Provide training to staff on regulatory compliance obligations.

Requirements

• A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or equivalent legal qualification.
• Admission as an Attorney or Advocate is preferred.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience in regulatory compliance, preferably within the energy or a related industry.
• Strong knowledge of South African energy, environmental, and related regulatory frameworks.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing compliance programs.
• Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Must be willing to commute to the office in Queenstown, Eastern Cape, ZA for designated hybrid workdays.
