Job summary

The City of New York's Department of Social Services seeks an Agency Attorney Intern to support the Adult Protective Services Litigation and Program Counseling Unit (APS/LPCU). The role provides legal counsel, drafts memoranda, and assists with guardianship, eviction proceedings, and related litigation in Civil, Housing, and administrative forums.

You will review records, ensure compliance with federal and state laws, and assist in litigation strategy under supervision.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited United States law school as defined by NY Court Rules or admission to the NYS Bar.

Responsibilities

• Provide counsel to APS/LPCU program areas on social service matters.
• Draft legal memoranda and policy guidance; render litigation support.
• Represent the Commissioner in court, hearings and related proceedings.
• Review and redact agency case records in response to subpoenas or requests.
• Research statutes, case law and agency regulations to answer legal questions.
• Assess admissibility of evidence and scope of witness testimony.
• Perform other related tasks as required.

Education
