Placements24 is seeking a diligent and proactive Legal Counsel to support expanding manufacturing operations in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. The role provides legal advice across contracts, compliance and disputes, collaborating with management to mitigate risks and ensure regulatory compliance.

You will draft and negotiate commercial contracts, advise on company and employment law, maintain governance records, and support HR on employment issues.

Qualifications

• Admitted Attorney with 3+ years PQE.
• Strong knowledge of contract and employment law.
• Experience drafting and reviewing commercial agreements.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

About the Role

Our client, a developing manufacturing enterprise, is seeking a diligent and proactive Legal Counsel to support its expanding operations. This role is crucial for providing essential legal advice across various business functions, including contract management, compliance, and dispute resolution. The Legal Counsel will work closely with management to identify and mitigate legal risks, ensuring the company operates within the bounds of the law. Key Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, supply agreements, and partnership documentation
• Provide legal advice on company law, employment law, and general commercial matters
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and industry-specific regulations
• Assist in managing litigation and resolving disputes, liaising with external counsel when necessary
• Conduct legal research and provide analysis on pertinent legal issues
• Support the human resources department with employment contract issues and labor law compliance
• Maintain accurate legal records and corporate governance documentation
• Advise on risk management strategies and the implementation of internal controls
• Handle regulatory compliance requirements related to manufacturing operations

Requirements

• Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with a minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience
• Solid understanding of South African contract law, company law, and labor law
• Experience in drafting and reviewing commercial agreements
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage a diverse workload
• Proficiency in legal research databases and Microsoft Office Suite
• A proactive approach to legal matters and a commitment to providing sound advice
• Experience in the manufacturing sector is advantageous
• Willingness to travel occasionally for business needs
