Job summary

Church Pension Group (CPG) in Midtown Manhattan invites rising 3Ls to join as Legal Associate- Summer Hire. The program runs May 2027 through July 2027 for 8–10 weeks and is open to students in accredited law schools who are in the top 25% of their 1L/2L class.

Professionals will gain exposure to pensions, health benefits, and various contracts while working with CPG attorneys. Hybrid office schedule applies, with on-site Tue–Thu and remote Mon/Fri, at a $30.00 hourly rate.

Qualifications

• Currently a student at an accredited law school; top 25% of 1L/2L class.
• Strong verbal and written communication.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
• Prior coursework in insurance, technology, employee benefits, privacy, or contract law preferred.
• Eligible for CPT and able to commit to the summer program.

Responsibilities

• Assist attorneys on a variety of legal matters.
• Research laws, regulations and cases.
• Review and draft contracts, policies and other legal documents.
• Participate in discussions with in-house and outside counsel.
• Provide other legal support as needed.
• In-person collaboration is regularly required.

SUMMARY

Church Pension Group (CPG) is a financial services organization located in Midtown Manhattan. CPG was founded in 1917 to provide pension benefits to eligible clergy of the Episcopal Church. Since then, its mission has expanded to include life and disability insurance, health benefits, property & casualty insurance, and publishing.

Legal Associate- Summer Hire positions at CPG are available on a full-time basis to rising third-year law students. Our 2027 Summer Legal Associate program runs for ten to eight weeks (depending on student's schedule) from May 2027 through July 2027. CPG is unable to accommodate split summers.

Legal Associates will work with CPG's attorneys and be exposed to a wide range of legal disciplines including pensions and health benefits, insurance, private investments and funds contracts, labor and employment, technology, cybersecurity, consulting and other contracts and compliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist and provide support to attorneys on a variety of legal matters
• Research laws, regulations and cases
• Review and assist in drafting a variety of contracts, policies and other legal documents
• Participate in discussions with in-house and outside counsel
• Other legal support for the Legal Department as needed
• Effective performance of the essential functions of this position requires regular in-person, on-site interaction with colleagues, both for purposes of relationship building and meaningful collaboration

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Currently, hybrid work environment, which requires working in CPG's office Tuesdays through Thursdays and flexibility to work remotely on Mondays and Fridays. $30.00 hourly
