Job summary

Wellington Management Company, LLP seeks a Legal Associate to support the Private Investments Legal Team in private markets and funds. You will collaborate with a global team to develop expertise in fund and deal lifecycles and assist with negotiations and playbooks.

The role requires 2–5 years’ asset-management experience, strong problem-solving, and the ability to manage fast-paced workflows in a collaborative environment. The firm offers comprehensive benefits and a hybrid work schedule.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, legal studies, business administration, or related field.
  • 2–5 years’ experience at an asset manager with knowledge of global capital markets, private investing, and/or private funds.
  • Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and organizational skills; detail-oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Develop expertise in private equity and private credit deal lifecycles.
  • Track legal attributes of deals; support portfolio investments.
  • Lead or contribute to team processes, workflows, and deal/fund pipeline tools.
  • Synthesize information; maintain team recordkeeping.
  • Contribute to playbooks and negotiate or oversee confidentiality agreements related to private investments.

We are looking for someone who is inquisitive and motivated to learn about private markets and the funds industry.ResponsibilitiesThe primary responsibilities of this role include, among others:Develop expertise in fund and deal lifecycles, and collaborate with business, investment, and operational colleagues to support various aspects of portfolio investmentsContribute to deal process by tracking and inputting legal attributes of various private equity and private credit dealsLead or contribute to the evolving design and execution of team processes, workflows and deal/fund pipeline management toolsSynthesize and organize information, create team reference tools, and assist with enhancing and maintaining team recordkeeping practicesContribute to support developing and maintaining playbooks and negotiating, or overseeing external providers assisting with negotiations, of confidentiality agreements and other routine agreements related to private investment transactions and fund formation processQualificationsBachelor's degree in political science, legal studies, business administration, or related field of study2-5 years prior experience working at an asset manager and a working knowledge of global capital markets, private investing, and / or private fundsIntellectually curious with strong problem-solving skillsExcellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work both independently and as a member of a teamAbility to self-start, think creatively and initiate projects that lead to improved scalable workflows and knowledge management for a growing team and business lineHighly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage fast-paced workflows and competing priorities in a sometimes high pressure environmentFlexibility to adapt to the evolving needs of the team and a desire to develop new skills, assume additional responsibilities, and step out of your comfort zoneOverall comfort with data and systems with proficiency in Excel, Tableau and similar macros and the ability to learn various internal and external systems and databases that support the Legal and Enterprise Risk GroupNot sure you meet 100% of our qualifications?
