Purpose

The Legal Assistant supports lawyers and legal professionals by providing a range of legal support and administrative services in the firm’s practice areas, which include bankruptcy, collections, foreclosure, litigation, and residential real estate or mortgage law.

Specific Duties, Activities, and Responsibilities

The Legal Assistant assists attorneys in client representation during litigation or bankruptcy proceedings with responsibilities such as:

  • Conduct legal, factual, and records research.
  • Identify relevant judicial decisions, statutes, codes, legal articles, or other pertinent materials.
  • Organize, analyze, and validate information.
  • Prepare written reports and legal documents, including pleadings, briefs, motions, and agreements.
  • Draft correspondence and proof legal forms and documents for accuracy.
  • Organize and maintain case files.
  • Monitor and manage judgment-related tasks for assigned judicial foreclosure caseloads.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal.
  • Paralegal certification is a plus but not mandatory; knowledge of multi-state service processes in a judicial environment is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of legal principles, research techniques, and terminology.
  • Knowledge of relevant government regulations.
  • Proficiency with relevant computer applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong planning, organizational, attention to detail, and accuracy skills.
  • Research, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.
