Job summary

Douglas County District Attorney is seeking an entry/intermediate level Legal Assistant 1 to provide procedural legal support to prosecutors. This full-time role handles routine forms, discovery, reports, and court documents, assisting attorneys and staff in preparing for trials and sentencing in a courteous, confidential manner.

The position offers a full-family benefits package, PERS/OPSRP retirement, and on-site courthouse childcare. Eligibility is at-will with the elected official.

Qualifications

• Three years clerical experience, with two years in a public or private law office preferred.
• Strong knowledge of standard legal office practices, terminology and court rules.
• Proficiency in keyboarding and word processing; ability to type accurately.”

Responsibilities

• Perform routine legal office clerical support for trial preparation and sentencing, including setting up and tracking court cases and discovery.
• Prepare and provide discovery of potentially graphic documents to defense counsel and prosecutors; duplicate evidence and process digital media.
• Type letters, forms and memos from verbal, transcribed or written instructions; draft basic legal documents for attorney review.
• Review accuracy of routine forms and incoming documents by compiling information from various sources; investigate discrepancies as needed.
• Enter information into databases for internal and external records; perform court-ordered expunction of records.
• Maintain trial calendars and dockets; manage deadlines and schedules, including subpoenas and notifications.
