Job summary

Pinellas County’s County Attorney's Office in Clearwater, Florida seeks a Litigation Legal Assistant to support a diverse public‑sector practice with strong benefits and retirement plans. The role handles calendars, pleadings, and routine legal documents.

You’ll prepare pleadings, subpoenas, and related instruments; file court documents; and assist attorneys with hearings. Prolaw experience is highly desirable, as is the ability to work varied schedules and manage office tasks efficiently.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of legal assistant experience
  • Associate degree or 2 years of college in legal studies, paralegal studies or related field and 1 year of legal assistant experience
  • Bachelor’s or higher-level degree in legal studies, paralegal studies or related field
  • Must be able to accurately type 55 net words per minute
  • Ability to work in a structured and deadline driven environment
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations

Responsibilities

  • Keeps appointment calendars, schedules appointments, and legal hearings and advises attorneys of important meetings and hearings
  • Prepares legal instruments such as pleadings, legal briefs, agreements, subpoenas, and related documents
  • Independently prepares routine legal forms & correspondence
  • Files pleadings with the appropriate court
  • Sets up and maintains files, files letters, legal pleadings, and related materials and assembles information for other's use
  • Scans and converts documents received to ensure proper formatting and profiling
  • Transcribes handwritten documents for review and editing
  • Receives and screens callers, gives information on office operations, and refers callers to other employees, officials or departments as warranted
  • Processes incoming mail and expense reports
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned

Litigation Legal Assistant

Location: 315 Court Street, Clearwater, FL 33756

The legal assistant is responsible for advanced legal assistant work including dealing with subjects primarily legal in nature and must be familiar with legal terminology. They will perform a wide variety of clerical tasks which will require the application of independent judgment and knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures as well as handling general office tasks such as the receipt and disposition of office calls, visitors, mail and maintaining appointment calendars and scheduling meetings.

What Would You Do?

What Do You Need To Have?
