Job summary

Schneiderman & Sherman, P.C. in Michigan seeks a Legal Assistant to support the Litigation-Eviction team.

The role focuses on processing cases, managing deadlines, drafting documents, and coordinating with clients, courts, and attorneys to ensure timely, accurate filings. The ideal candidate has a high school diploma (associate degree preferred) and 1–3 years of legal experience, including familiarity with case management systems.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; Associate's degree or higher preferred.
  • 1-3 years of legal assistant or paralegal experience required; 4+ years preferred.
  • Prior experience in default servicing, creditors' rights, landlord-tenant, evictions, or real estate law (plaintiff representation) preferred.
  • Prior experience with CaseAware, BKFS/ICE/Black Knight, ResNet, and/or Pyramid case management systems preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of Michigan court procedures and filing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and prepare legal documents for court filing, including complaints, motions, notices and correspondence, with a focus on accuracy and compliance.
  • Effectively manage electronic filing of legal documents through state and federal court systems, ensuring timely and error-free submissions in accordance with court requirements.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for clients, courts, opposing counsel, and vendors, responding promptly to inquiries via email, phone, and voicemail.
  • Provide clear, accurate updates on case status and escalated complex matters as needed to achieve satisfactory outcomes for clients.
  • Serve as a liaison for process servers to coordinate services, monitor performance, and identify trends to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Maintain and update case files, track deadlines, and ensure the timely progression of cases through the legal process, including eviction and related proceedings.
  • Perform data entry, maintain case management systems, and ensure all documentation adheres to internal standard operating procedures and external regulatory requirements.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

Legal Assistant Position Summary

This Legal Assistant position is responsible for ensuring smooth processing and effective case management in the Litigation-Eviction department. They must communicate cross-functionally with clients, courts, and attorneys in a timely and professional manner. This is a full-time, in-office position, Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., averaging 40 hours per week. Overtime hours may become available and required based on business needs.
