The Legal Analyst role with the Office of Chief Counsel offers an exciting chance to support important legal work for the Department of Education. This position allows you to learn core legal skills while helping attorneys prepare cases and review information. You will work with sensitive matters and play a key part in organizing documents and research. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports attorneys by reviewing educator complaints, researching legal matters, and organizing case information. As a Legal Analyst, you will perform the following duties:

  • Complaint Review: Analyze allegations, gather facts, and determine whether submitted complaints meet required standards
  • Legal Research: Examine laws, policies, and regulations to support case preparation
  • Case Preparation: Draft materials, organize case files, and assist attorneys with hearing documentation
  • Information Gathering: Contact schools and courts to obtain records and verify case details
  • System Management: Update tracking systems and ensure case information is accurate and complete
  • Administrative Support: Assist with phone coverage, mail processing, and special legal projects

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 2 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • Five years of legal research and analysis experience including three years at the professional level, and an associate’s degree; or
  • Three years of professional experience in legal research and analysis, and a bachelor’s degree; or
  • A Juris Doctor degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes two years of professional experience in legal research and analysis.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within three months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
