Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected Legal Support team that is responsible for providing a variety of legal, administrative and technical support services to the Criminal Division within the District of Nevada. The duties of this position include:

  • Managing, organizing, reviewing, and summarizing incoming and outgoing discovery in electronic or other formats in compliance with the Federal Rules of Criminal and/or Civil Procedure.
  • Handling a wide variety of evidence and Discovery, organizing, preparing, routing electronic discovery, discovery redactions and webcam redactions.
  • Uses various software applications technologies, such as Discovery, Everlaw, Case View, Adobe, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. to collect, organize, analyze, and present information.
  • Conducts factual research and non-complex research of legislation, statutes, regulations, and court cases, cite-checking legal briefs and proofreading, memoranda, and other legal documents.
  • Preparing draft pleadings, stipulations, motions, tables of authorities, tables of contents, and other legal documents.
  • Providing administrative support for assigned cases. This includes but is not limited to entering information into case management systems; maintaining calendar and logging of assigned active cases; and managing case-related and discovery documents.

Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience.

  • Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is defined as performing the following: (1) managing incoming discovery in tracking receipt, in index or logs including paper documents, and electronic files, (2) performing general administrative support duties ie: office automation software, preparing binders, file compilations for use during hearings, depositions, interviews and trials; (3) providing technical assistance to litigation teams, and utilizing various software applications to provide assistance to attorneys in trial preparation and courtroom presentations; (4) utilizing office automation tools in order to create physical and digital trial presentations, working with investigators, agents, and legal support staff; handling a wide variety of evidence and discovery; (5) and conducting factual legal research, non-legal databases, non-complex research of legislation, statutes, regulations, and court cases.
  • Education: One of the following types of education in a closely related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law, Information Technology) Master's or equivalent graduate degree or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
  • Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year.

Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)-

The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
