Overview

The Department of Communication and Media Studies at California State University San Marcos accepts applications on an ongoing basis for our pool of part‑time lecturers to teach lower‑division and upper‑division courses, including GEO 102: General Education – Oral Communication.

Responsibilities

GEO 102 Course Description: Introduction to the form and content of communication. Includes the linguistic, psychological, and cultural bases of communication; various types of communication ranging from basic speech acts to forms of persuasion; the social and political significance of communication; and how communication operates within and across a wide range of social contexts. Students become actively acquainted with potential proficiencies that may be brought into various social contexts. Requires active participation in classroom exercises and practicing public speaking.

Qualifications

Applicant pools are used to fill short‑term temporary lecturer positions across our campus with the possibility of re‑hiring. Appointments may last from one day to an entire semester.

  • ABD in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field;
  • Experience and demonstrated effectiveness with in‑person classroom instruction and Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, Moodle, or Blackboard;
  • Per the California State University’s Out‑of‑State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU‑related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • A doctorate in Communication/Media Studies or closely related field;
  • Pertinent expertise to teach courses in our Communication/Media Studies programs;
  • Higher education teaching experience with a minimum of 1 year as teacher of record pertinent to the subject area;
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving our campus community in teaching and, as applicable, service.
Salary

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $5,507 - $8,000 per full‑time month
  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer A - AY: $5,507 - $6,677 per full‑time month
  • CSU Classification Salary Range Lecturer B - AY: $6,221 - $13,224 per full‑time month
