Job Overview

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Belmont University is seeking applications for one or more one-year lecturer positions beginning August 1, 2026. Depending on performance and university/department needs, the position(s) could be extended for additional years.

Hours

Twenty‑four hours of undergraduate teaching per year (typically four three‑hour courses each semester).

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate courses in mathematics and related areas, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in teaching.
  • Prepare and deliver graduate‑level coursework (at least 18 graduate‑level credit hours); teaching experience preferred.
  • Design and maintain interdisciplinary and topical courses for the university’s general education program.
  • Create course syllabi, timelines, and provide scheduled meeting times for students.
  • Manage online grading systems and submit grades in a timely fashion.
  • Abide by all relevant university and/or department procedures and policies.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree with 18 hours of graduate‑level mathematics courses.
  • Knowledge of principles, methods and current developments in the field of study.
  • Knowledge of subject matter and course content taught.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to support, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students.
  • Skilled in use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software.
  • Ability to learn BannerWeb, Belmont University’s online integrated database system for student grading.
  • Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
  • Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and representatives of the institution, and the general public in a professional manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Higher-education teaching experience.
