About The Department

The Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering ( ISE ) at NC State strives to improve society through research and education across a broad spectrum of methods and application areas. The ISE community includes more than 25 faculty, 10 core staff, 350 undergraduate students, and 250 graduate students with approximately 75 Ph.D. students. The ISE department leads three centers and multiple interdisciplinary graduate degrees, where faculty members work together in a collaborative and collegial environment (ranked highly by US News).

NC State is growing engineering to meet industry demand for graduates and the growing demand associated with Applied AI. The university is based in Raleigh, NC, which was named Best Places to Live by US News and World Report. Our location places us close to three major universities, a large number of world-class companies, and several leading research institutes. Our faculty are Fellows of IISE, INFORMS, SME, and additional societies.

In ISE, innovative research is conducted within and across areas, along with interdisciplinary collaborations across the university and beyond. The department offers degrees in ISE, leads a Master’s in Engineering Management, collaborates on graduate degrees in Operations Research, and supports the Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering Master’s degree. The department houses two funded centers that are public-private partnerships, including the Ergonomics Center of North Carolina and the Center for Additive Manufacturing and Logistics. The Bezos Center for Alternative Proteins is also led by an ISE faculty member. The Beuno Center is not described here; content retained as in original where applicable.

The ISE department is supported by laboratory facilities for computing, manufacturing, and human factors and ergonomics research, enhanced by the Fitts-Woolard Hall. Essential Job Duties

The Fitts Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering invites applicants for a Lecturer position. The primary role is to deliver high-quality undergraduate and/or graduate instruction for the department, supporting teaching needs during the spring, fall, and/or summer sessions of 2024-2025. Teaching emphasis will be on courses in manufacturing, supply chain management, and computing, as well as specialized topics in sustainability, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, or engineering management. Applicants are encouraged to specify courses within the curriculum they are qualified to teach or propose special topics relevant to their expertise.

Key Duties And Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging course content for both undergraduate and graduate students, ensuring alignment with departmental and institutional goals.
  • Prepare course materials, assignments, and assessments, fostering a challenging yet supportive learning environment.
  • Provide academic support and guidance to students.
  • Collaborate with department faculty to review and update curriculum materials to reflect current industry trends.
  • Utilize instructional methods and technologies to support diverse learning styles.
  • Participate in department meetings and contribute to curriculum planning and development initiatives.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Statistics, Manufacturing, or a closely related field, with relevant professional experience, an equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience.
  • For teaching graduate and post-baccalaureate courses: A doctorate degree in the same or a related field.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Strong foundational knowledge in industrial and systems engineering or related fields.
  • Proficiency in delivering course content on manufacturing, supply chain management, computing, or specialized topics like sustainability and AI.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Effective use of instructional technology and innovative teaching practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in teaching at the college or university level in industrial engineering, operations research, computer science, statistics, manufacturing, ergonomics, or a related field.
