Position Summary

The faculty member will be expected to contribute to the department’s teaching program by developing and contributing to a comprehensive companion animal science curriculum to include topics relevant to companion animal biology, management, and their role in society. This position is expected to teach courses in animal welfare and human/animal interaction as well as develop classes relevant to their expertise and areas of need in the companion animal industries. This could include, but is not limited to, animal-assisted interventions, companion animal nutrition, health and well-being, management, or other relevant companion animal areas of focus. This position is expected to promote career readiness and provide leadership for student job placement within the field. The faculty member is also expected to be involved in advisement of undergraduate students including mentorship of students in extracurricular learning experiences as well as industry work experiences/internships. It is additionally expected that this faculty member will actively pursue opportunities to improve their teaching effectiveness and maintain industry connections for job placement experiential learning opportunities (i.e. internships)

Applicants should hold a PhD in Animal Science, or a closely related field, or be a Licensed Veterinarian.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And/or Competencies

A proven record of excellence working with companion animals (dog or cats) is expected. The ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with colleagues is essential.
