About the College of Science

The College'smission is to educate, mentor, and inspire students throughscientific inquiry and hands-on learning. It offers 15undergraduate degree programs and six Master's degrees across sevenacademic departments that include: Biological Sciences, Chemistry& Biochemistry, Computer Science, Geological Sciences,Kinesiology & Health Promotion, Mathematics & Statistics,and Physics & Astronomy. Our Center for Excellence in Math andScience Teaching (CEMaST) supports K-16 education locally andnationally to increase STEM success and participation for all. TheCollege of Science has approximately 150 full-time faculty, 40staff, and 4,400 active majors. About the Department of Mathematics andStatistics

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics has over 29 full-time faculty and offers a bachelor's degree inmathematics with two options: pure mathematics/secondary teachingand applied mathematics/statistics. We also offer a master'sprogram with two degrees: one degree with emphases in mathematicseducation and pure mathematics; and a second degree with options inapplied mathematics and statistics. The department currently hasover 500 undergraduate major students, over 65 graduate students,and serves over 5,000 students each semester.

Cal Poly Pomona has a student body with diverse socio-economic andcultural backgrounds and learning styles, and the department islooking for faculty who can thrive and contribute meaningfully inthis environment. Our majors reflect the diversity of the overalluniversity student population, with over 50% from underrepresentedgroups, as well as approximately 40% first generation collegestudents. The Position

The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions arefilled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on shortnotice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends inmid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends inmid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions mayalso be available. Responsibilities

Teach assigned division courses in the department's curriculum andserve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load. Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend courses.

Qualifications

You are required to have a masters or doctoral degree inmathematics, statistics or a closely related field. Your qualifyingdegree must be completed by August 1, 2025. Evidence demonstratingrecent teaching excellence must be provided in your application. Preference will be given to applicants who are professionallyengaged in mathematical, statistical or math/stat educationalactivities and to those able to demonstrate the capability toincrease student interest and achievement in mathematics andstatistics.

Salary and Benefit Information

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based onprofessional experience and educational background and aredetermined by the hiring department. Initial appointments are forone semester only. The full-time (15 units per semester) monthlybase salaries indicated above are prorated to the number of unitsworked and are paid in six monthly payments for each fullsemester.

Most new appointees are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank andplaced at the beginning of the range. Anticipated hiring rangedepending on qualifications, not to exceed $6,221 per month. As ofJuly 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respectiveranks are:

  • Lecturer A: $5,507 - $ 6,677
  • Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224
  • Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523
  • Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211
