About the Job

This role provides instruction and advising related to courseparticipation and student learning objectives to students enrolledin the Master of Social Work (MSW) Programs. The individual in thisrole also engages in efforts to fulfill the mission of the Schoolof Social Work by developing teaching materials, exams, andassignments. Individuals in this role must have the capacity todemonstrate ethical social work practice to students. Individualsin this role are required to use electronic educational technologyto communicate with students and other faculty, grade assignmentsand exams, and submit student grades. While the majority ofinstruction is delivered in person, individuals in this role areexpected to utilize the learning management system, Canvas, tocommunicate with students and to deliver supplementary instruction.Individuals not familiar with Canvas and other education technologymust be willing to learn how to use this technology in order to meet the needs of students. Individuals in this role areexpected to collaborate with other faculty and to follow School ofSocial Work and University policies.

Typically, these appointments are made semester by semester andemployment is contingent on the course meeting its enrollmenttarget. This posting is designed to establish a "pool" of instructors. Applicants will be selected from this pool on anas-needed basis throughout the academic year. Applications will notbe acknowledged but will be reviewed when such openings occurthroughout the academic year.

These are temporary, non-tenured, Academic Professional andAdministrative (P&A) positions as Teaching Specialist orLecturer, paid on a per course basis for the School of Social Work(SSW) at the University of Minnesota.

This position is based on campus. Per UMN policy, work may be doneremotely when appropriate and approved by your manager. All UMNemployees are expected to follow applicable public health andsafety procedures.

Job Responsibilities
Teaching (90%)
  • Attend class meetings and deliver course content
  • Evaluate student performance and submit grading
  • Respond to student inquiries and meet with students
Course Preparation (10%)
  • Meet with appropriate faculty and gather information asneeded
  • Develop course content and syllabus
  • Prepare course materials
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • MSW degree from a CSWE-accredited institution
  • Currently licensed to practice social work in the state ofMinnesota
  • Have at least 2-years post-MSW direct experience
  • Knowledge of the course content area
  • Training/Teaching experience
  • Ability to communicate clearly, orally and in written work
  • Must be able to meet at the assigned class time, schedule office hours, and meet with School of Social Work personnel asnecessary for the preparation and delivery of the course
  • Evidence of attention to diverse identities in teaching orprofessional experience, and the commitment to support theUniversity’s work in diversity, equity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
  • Positive student evaluations from previously taughtcourses
  • Successful completion of graduate coursework beyond themaster's level

Pay and Benefits

Pay Rang e: $1,785-$2,585 per credit; d epending oneducation/qualifications/experience.

Final salary offers are determined based on the candidate's numberof semesters taught within the department, as well as semesterstaught outside the department, as verified by provided SRTs.

Note: Each semester is counted as one (1), regardless of the numberof classes taught during that term.
