SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

The Leather Cutter is a skilled artisan who works with a diverse range of materials to meticulously prepare, mark, and trim patterns for a variety of products, including furniture, clothing, and accessories. They handle a selection of materials, such as skins and tanned hides, using shears or a cutting table. Their responsibilities encompass the critical tasks of leather inspection, selecting cutting areas, precise positioning of components on the material, and ensuring that all pieces meet the specified quality standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Material Preparation: Gather and sort leather rolls and patterns to prepare for cutting.
  2. Layout and Cutting: Carefully roll out the leather and patterns onto the cutting table, where they meticulously lay out, mark, and cut the leather or skins into parts for different articles using specialized tools like leather knives or shears.
  3. Pattern Positioning: Expertly position pattern pieces on the leather or skins to determine the optimal number of cuts. They may also lay the leather side on the table, position dies on it to maximize the number of cuts, and use a mallet to cut out the required parts. Additionally, they may punch holes in parts using a kick press.
  4. Material Inspection: Thoroughly inspect materials for any flaws and ensure that only high-quality materials are used in the production process.
  5. Machine Operation: Utilize various cutting machines to size and cut leather and patterns in accordance with precise specifications.
  6. Quality Control: Maintain product quality by conducting inspections of the finished pieces, verifying that they meet the required standards and quality criteria.
  7. Organization and Proactivity: Maintain a highly organized, detail-oriented work routine to ensure efficiency and precision in all tasks.
  8. Clean and Safe Workspace: Keep the work area clean and orderly while strictly adhering to safety protocols, promoting a secure and hazard-free environment.
  9. Team Contribution: Actively contribute to the overall team's efforts by achieving related results as needed, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Previous experience in leather goods manufacturing is preferred.
  2. Candidates should acquire all job responsibilities within a reasonable timeframe.

  4. Proficiency in basic measuring and literacy skills is required.
  5. Capability to handle physical tasks.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Regular standing and sitting, with occasional walking.
  2. Frequent talking and hearing.
  3. Repeating various physical motions throughout the shift, which may involve using feet, legs, arms, wrists, hands, and fingers.
  4. Precision and manual dexterity in performing various hand operations.
  5. Close visual attention to detail.
  6. Ability to carry and lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs when necessary.

The pay range for this role is:

$18.75 + (plus) per hour depending on level of experience
