Howard Hughes Communities, based in The Woodlands, TX, is seeking a Leasing Attorney to lead the leasing program for office, retail, and ground leases across master‑planned communities in The Woodlands and Bridgeland. You will partner with leasing agents, property managers, and development teams to close deals and shape strategy.

The ideal candidate has 4+ years of hands‑on commercial leasing experience, strong drafting skills, and a business‑minded approach to negotiations within an in‑house

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice in Texas.
• 4+ years of direct commercial leasing experience in-house or with a real-estate practice.
• Strong experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating office, retail, and ground leases and related documents.
• Working knowledge of landlord-side leasing issues (TI allowances, co-tenancy, CAM, exclusivity).
• Ability to balance legal risk with business objectives and lead deals to closure.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate office, retail, and ground leases, LOIs, and ancillary documents.
• Provide business-minded legal advice on leasing matters and deal terms.
• Lead lease negotiations from markup through execution.
• Manage and improve the leasing document suite (leases, amendments, letters, SNDAs, estoppels).
• Coordinate with leasing agents, property managers, and development teams across the Houston region.
• Ensure consistent terms and timely deal execution across portfolios.
• Analyze lease language to support operations and portfolio decisions.
• Supervise and mentor paralegals and junior leasing attorneys as appropriate.
• Support broader legal and business initiatives to streamline workflows.
