Job summary

Cooper Machinery Services is seeking a Lease Compression Technician III (Maintenance) to independently manage preventative maintenance and repairs on natural gas compressor packages at customer sites.

You will work in the field and shop, monitor performance, provide clear recommendations, and mentor Level I/II technicians, while representing Cooper professionally at every interaction.

Qualifications

• 4-8 years of hands-on experience with natural gas compression equipment.
• Advanced knowledge of major compression/engine brands (Caterpillar, Cooper-Bessemer, Ajax, Superior).
• Experience with troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and overhauls.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex equipment issues on site for natural gas compressor packages and engines.
• Perform preventive maintenance, annual maintenance, complex repairs, and overhauls in field and shop environments.
• Monitor equipment performance, generate reports, and propose improvements for reliability.
• Complete engine swings, end‑frame work, disassembly, and overhauls as required.
• Serve as the primary technical contact for customers and mentor Level I/II technicians.

Lease Compression Technician III (Maintenance)

If you're an experience compression technician who can walk onto a customer site, assess equipment, troubleshoot an issue, and get the job done, this is an opportunity to put that experience to work!

As a Lease Compression Technician III, you will take ownership of preventative maintenance, troubleshooting repairs, and equipment performance across natural gas compression packages. You will work independently in the field while serving as a trusted technical resource.

This role is ideal for a technician who has built a foundation in natural gas compression and is ready to take on greater technical responsibility. You will have the opportunity to work across engines and compressors, perform repairs in both the field and shop, monitor equipment performance, and provide customers with clear recommendations.

What You Will Do

• Independently troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex equipment issues on natural gas compressor packages and engines at customer sites.
• Perform preventive, annual maintenance, complex repairs, and overhauls on engines and compressors in both field and shop environments.
• Monitor equipment performance, generate detailed reports, and recommend improvements to maintain reliable equipment operation.
• Complete frame and engine swings, end-frame work, full disassemble, and engine/compressor overhauls, as required.
• Service as the primary technical point of contact for customers, providing expert guidance on equipment condition, repairs, and recommendations.
• Provide technical guidance and hands‑on support to Level I and II technicians, helping less experienced team members develop troubleshooting and repair skills.
• Work independently and safely in the field, managing complex assignments with minimal supervision while representing Cooper professionally at every customer interaction.

Who You Are

• 4-8 years of direct, hands‑on experience working on natural gas compression equipment.
• Advanced, working knowledge of Caterpillar, Cooper-Bessemer, Ajax, Superior, or similar compression/engine systems.
• Demonstrated experience performing complex troubleshooting, repairs, preventive/annual maintenance, and overhauls independently.
• Hands‑on experience with frame and engine swings, end‑framework, disassembly, and overhaul activities.
• Valid driver's license.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
• Ability to travel to assigned field locations and work extended hours, if needed.

Preferred

• CDL-A with Tanker and Hazmat endorsements.
• Experience with third-party repair/service environments.
• Previous experience mentoring or training technicians.
