Job summary

SYSTEM West Virginia University Health System seeks a Lease Accountant to perform a broad range of lease accounting functions in accordance with GAAP and ASC 842. Responsibilities include setting up leases, initiating payments, and maintaining documentation during month-end, budget prep, and external audits.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or related business degree with concentration in accounting/finance, and preferred experience with ASC 842.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance OR Bachelor of Science in Business Administration or Business Management with a concentration in Accounting or Finance.
• Prior experience with ASC 842 or Lease Accounting.

Responsibilities

• Develop relationships with Department lease contacts to monitor financial controls and data in relation to lease processing.
• Evaluate lease processes to maximize efficiency in daily accounting operations and ensure internal controls.

Job description

Performs a wide range of lease management related accounting functions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ASC 842. Completes all aspects of new lease setup, initiates lease payments and provides lease documentation as needed during month-end, budget preparation and external audit. Provides lease guidance to lease contacts to ensure data accuracy.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE

• Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance OR Bachelor of Science in Business Administration or Business Management with a concentration in Accounting or Finance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior experience with Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) 842 or Lease Accounting.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop strong relationship with Department lease contacts to help coordinate and monitor financial controls and accurate data in relation to lease processing according to lease guidelines.
• Evaluate lease processes to maximize efficiency in the daily accounting operations. Ensure that internal control measures are being followed.
• Maintain lease software in order to complete and submit accurate financial data during month-end process according to predetermined deadlines. Investigate and communicate variance issues to supervisor/manager of the department.
• Develop and submit analytical financial data as needed by supervisor or department director/manager.
• Assist in completing and compiling lease support documentation for budget and external audit purposes.
• Ensure duties of lease management are completed accurately and timely including lease review, lease entry into lease management software and lease payments
• Participate in educational opportunities as provided by the hospital to enhance skill related abilities.
• Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Support performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives.

• May need to sit during extended periods of time.

• Normal office environment.
