Job summary

SYSTEM West Virginia University Health System is seeking a Lease Accounting Specialist to manage GAAP/ASC 842 lease activities, including new lease setup, month-end processing and payments, and audit support.

You will build relationships with department lease contacts, monitor data accuracy, and maintain lease software for timely reporting. The role also involves preparing analytical financial data for budgets and external audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or related field, or business admin with accounting/finance concentration.
• Experience with GAAP/ASC 842 lease accounting preferred.
• Strong data accuracy and financial analysis capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop relationships with Department lease contacts to coordinate financial controls and data accuracy.
• Evaluate lease processes to maximize efficiency in daily accounting operations and ensure internal controls.
• Maintain lease software and submit accurate month-end data by deadlines; communicate variances.
• Prepare analytical financial data as needed for supervisors or department directors.
• Assist in compiling lease support documentation for budgets and external audits.
• Ensure lease management duties are completed accurately including payments and entries.
• Participate in educational opportunities to enhance relevant skills.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and support quality initiatives.
• Contribute to performance improvement and ongoing process optimization.

Job description

Performs a wide range of lease management related accounting functions in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and ASC 842. Completes all aspects of new lease setup, initiates lease payments and provides lease documentation as needed during month-end, budget preparation and external audit. Provides lease guidance to lease contacts to ensure data accuracy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

• Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance
• Bachelor of Science in Business Administration or Business Management with a concentration in Accounting or Finance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:EXPERIENCE:

• Prior experience with Accounting Standards Codification (ASC) 842 or Lease Accounting.

• 3. Maintain lease software in order to complete and submit accurate financial data during month-end process according to predetermined deadlines. Investigate and communicate variance issues to supervisor/manager of the department.
• 4. Develop and submit analytical financial data as needed by supervisor or department director/manager.
• 5. Assist in completing and compiling lease support documentation for budget and external audit purposes.
• 6. Ensure duties of lease management are completed accurately and timely including lease review, lease entry into lease management software and lease payments
• 7. Participate in educational opportunities as provided by the hospital to enhance skill related abilities.
• 8. Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• 9. Support performance improvement and quality assurance initiatives.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
