Responsibilities

  • Provide direct services to students preschool through 8th grade with identified learning disabilities.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to develop Educational Accommodations Plans (EAPs).
  • Help conduct assessments and analyze data to determine interventions and accommodations.
  • Develop and implement academic interventions in reading, writing, math, and study skills.
  • Support gifted students with appropriate academic challenges and enrichment.
  • Advocate for families and students to ensure access to services.
  • Collaborate with outside specialists as needed.

Open Position: Learning Specialist (Part Time)Direct Reports: N/AReporting To: Director of the Center for Responsive LearningFLSA Status: Non-ExemptWhen Needed: 2026-2027 school yearFTE: 50% Part-time, M-F, mornings, academic yearPay rate: ranges between $33,811 and $72,536 annually based on education and experienceJob Overview:We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Learning Specialist to join our school community. The ideal candidate will have a special education certification, experience working with gifted students, and be able to provide academic interventions to meet the diverse needs of our student body. In addition, the candidate will have experience partnering with grade-level teams to plan and implement support for students in K-8th grade.General Responsibilities:Provide direct services to students in preschool through 8th grade setting with identified learning disabilities, including but not limited to dyslexia, ADHD, and executive functioning deficits.Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, team members, and administrators to develop and implement Educational Accommodations Plans (EAPs) that support the academic, social, and emotional growth of students.Help conduct assessments and analyze data to determine appropriate interventions and accommodations.Develop and implement academic interventions that address the specific needs of students, including but not limited to reading, writing, math, and study skills.Work with classroom teachers and other specialists to identify and support gifted students, providing appropriate academic challenges and enrichment opportunities.Serve as a resource and advocate for families and students to ensure they are receiving appropriate support and services.Collaborate with outside service providers, including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and psychologists to support students as needed.Required Education, Training & Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.Special Education Certification highly recommended.Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in a special education or learning support role, preferably in an independent school setting.Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Experience working with diverse learners and developing and implementing academic interventions at various grade levels.Knowledge of up-to-date evidence based best practices and strategies related to special education, including gifted educationStrong understanding and experience with multi-sensory literacy and math instructionExcellent communication and interpersonal skills.Experience successfully managing multiple projects at one timeAbility to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders, including students, families, teachers, and administrators.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the children and programAbility to work outside in all weatherAbility to lift up to 50 poundsSome travel may be required (field trips)This description is intended to describe the general content and requirements for the performance of this position.
