The Kumon Center Assistant supports the daily academic and operational activities of the Kumon Center. This role works directly with students, parents, and other staff members to create a positive, organized, and productive learning environment.
The Center Assistant helps students develop independence, confidence, accuracy, and strong study habits while following Kumon's instructional philosophy and center procedures.
The ideal candidate is dependable, patient, energetic, detail-oriented, and enjoys working with children and teenagers.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support & Instruction
- Assist students with their daily Kumon Math and Reading assignments.
- Observe students as they work and provide appropriate guidance when needed.
- Encourage students to think independently rather than simply providing answers.
- Answer student questions using appropriate questioning and coaching techniques.
- Monitor student focus, behavior, and engagement.
- Help students develop good study habits and time-management skills.
- Encourage students to complete assignments accurately and efficiently.
- Support students of different ages and ability levels.
Grading & Worksheet Management
- Grade completed worksheets accurately and efficiently.
- Record student scores and completion times.
- Identify errors or patterns that may require additional instructor attention.
- Prepare students' next assignments according to center procedures.
- Organize worksheets and student materials.
- Maintain accurate student folders and records.
Classroom Support
- Help maintain an organized, quiet, and productive learning environment.
- Assist with student check-in and dismissal.
- Ensure students are seated and working appropriately.
- Help prepare the classroom before sessions and clean up afterward.
- Follow center procedures for opening and closing classroom areas.
Student Progress
- Observe student performance and communicate concerns to the Academic Coordinator or Instructor.
- Celebrate student accomplishments and milestones.
- Encourage students to work toward their individual goals.
- Support achievement tests and other academic activities.
- Help recognize students for progress, effort, and achievement.
Parent & Customer Service
- Welcome students and parents warmly.
- Provide professional and courteous customer service.
- Answer basic questions about daily center procedures.
- Direct academic, enrollment, billing, or policy questions to the appropriate staff member.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student and family information.
Teamwork
- Work collaboratively with the Academic Coordinator, Administrative & Operations Coordinator, and Instructor.
- Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
- Follow staff instructions and center procedures.
- Communicate student concerns promptly.
- Support special events, parent activities, and center initiatives.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or currently enrolled in high school with appropriate qualifications.
- Strong math and reading skills.
- Ability to work effectively with children and teenagers.
- Strong communication skills.
