Job summary

Precision Castparts is seeking a manufacturing supervisor to lead a 6-12 member team, promoting teamwork and continuous improvement on the floor. Responsibilities include safety leadership, process control, and cross-training to meet daily throughput goals.

You will coach staff, document standardized work, and escalate issues as needed while maintaining a harassment-free environment and ensuring policy compliance.

Essential Functions
Safety
  • Complete safety overview training and additional training as required.
  • May be required to complete Hazardous Waste Management Training.
  • Assure compliance with safe work practices and maintenance of 5-S standards.
  • Promptly address and notify supervision of potential hazards and observed safety violations.
  • Identify potential solutions for safety related problems and assist with problem resolution.
  • Participate in incident investigations.
  • May be required to handle hazardous waste.
Teamwork (Teams will consist of 6-12 employees)
  • Prioritize work and shift setup in accordance with daily thru-put requirements.
  • In performing leadership duties, avoid favoritism or the perception of favoritism.
  • Coach and work with team members to identify and solve team problems.
  • Facilitate process to drive problem solving to the lowest organizational level.
  • Escalate problems that cannot be resolved at the team level to the appropriate organizational level.
  • May be tasked to develop and document standardized work and subsequently train employees to the defined standardized work.
  • Participate in staffing projections.
  • Facilitate scheduling of team O.T. and vacation in accordance with policy.
  • Handle front line performance issues. Communicate with employees in a respectful manner regarding time management and workmanship issues. Notify supervision when further action is required to improve performance.
  • Give objective, fact-based input for performance management, performance reviews and measurements.
  • Train employees on new skills and works with employees to improve performance to satisfactory levels or maintain satisfactory performance. When appropriate will assign a trainer to provide training.
  • Coordinate resources to move from one team to help another when necessary to meet daily thru-put and support outside departments.
  • Maintain materials, supplies, and product levels.
  • Is sensitive to and proactively supports the maintenance of a harassment / discrimination free environment.
Process Control
  • Participate in root cause analysis for process in/out of control conditions.
  • Understand process control requirements and notify appropriate party/parties when a process is out of control.Facilitate technique card and router changes.
Measurements
  • Set, display and communicate daily team production goals in accordance with TOC/Lean principles.
  • Update Team Board.
  • May participate in presentation of team production status in daily thru-put “line walks”.
  • Update daily status on inventory position.
  • Perform assessments.
Planning
  • Coordinate long and short term capacity requirements and thru-put commitments with planning/supervisors.
  • Assist with strategies to forecast and attain team measurements.
Other
  • Interface with customers, engineering, and other departments to give process walks and presentations.
  • Record daily attendance on the attendance log confirming with individuals/team that information is accurate and in accordance with policy.
  • Contact appropriate resources if any employee may not be fit for duty and address issue promptly.
  • Assure compliance with company policies and procedures and promptly notify supervision of deviations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience
  • Must have an understanding of Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) concepts and be able to facilitate the problem-solving process.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Maintain all required certifications for your assigned area or be able to certify within 90 days, or as described in the pertinent Step Progression Record.
  • Must be willing, as required by team and production needs to:
  • Adjust shift
  • Perform various jobs required to ship castings (direct labor). Specifically, it may be required to be capable of performing the tasks of all team members.
  • Interface with other teams and support areas.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing. Instructions must be clear and unambiguous.
  • Ability to make “shop floor” presentations to customers, engineering, and other departments as required or requested.
  • Demonstrated computer competency, with at least a general understanding of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, preferred.
