Job summary

Martinrea International Inc. is seeking a Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement leader to guide the BU in optimization, standardization and waste reduction. The role oversees projects across functions and drives value using Kaizen, 5S, and other lean tools.

You will mentor a small team on the plant floor, monitor safety compliance, and report progress to senior management. Strong English communication, organizational skills and hands-on manufacturing experience are essential.

Qualifications

• College diploma or Grade 12 with 5–7 years of hands-on supervisory experience.
• Good working knowledge of press shop, stamping operations and welding.
• Experience initiating and implementing lean tools (Kaizen, 5S).
• Excellent English communication (oral and written).
• Advanced computer skills and strong organizational abilities.
• Strong leadership and problem-solving capabilities.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead lean projects across multiple functions to improve productivity and define strategies.
• Track financial results and project prioritization based on throughput and lead-time gains.
• Apply lean principles and provide remote or direct support for improvements.
• Identify opportunities for waste reduction in processes.
• Create and conduct training; mentor lean employees and educate plant personnel.
• Lead Lean Manufacturing events with data gathering, analysis, and problem solving.
• Coordinate event charters and scheduling with management for participation and support.
• Prepare management reports on Lean activities and progress.

Job Summary:

This role provides leadership and direction to the BU in regards to Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement Process

Required Education and Experience:

• College diploma and/or combination of Grade 12 with minimum 5 to 7 years of hands-on Supervisory experience in a related field
• Good working knowledge of press shop, stamping operations and welding
• Must have experience in initiating and implementing lean manufacturing tools; Kaizen, 5S, etc.
• Excellent English Communication Skills (oral and written)
• Advance knowledge of computer skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Strong leadership and problem solving skills.
• Good understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations

Essential Functions:

• Planning, developing, initiating, and monitoring lean projects across multiple functions to improve productivity; communicating on defining strategies results and accomplishments.
• Tracking financial results and reports on quantifiable goals and objectives; estimating future projects from financial, throughput, lead-time and on-time performance improvements to assist in the prioritization of projects.
• Integrate lean continuous improvement principles, values, philosophies and tools for driving improvement. Provide remote or direct support.
• Identify opportunities for waste reduction in business and manufacturing processes
• Creating and conducting training programs; training and mentoring future lean employees; educating plant personnel on lean methodology and identifying the best projects for implementation
• Presents, facilitates and leads assigned Lean Manufacturing events using methods of culture-appropriate team building, team energizing, data gathering and analysis, problem solving, project management and state of the art presentation and platform skills
• Seeks and evaluates process improvement and Lean Enterprise information, materials, and methods to match specific organizational needs as outlined by management, and adapts them to use in the execution of process improvement events.
• Participates in and coordinates the development of event Charters and scheduling of the events. Works with departmental management to assure appropriate participation and support. Assists in locating and reserving meeting locations and coordinating the delivery of services and materials necessary for a successful event.
• Provides event follow-up to monitor the progress of planned improvement implementation to assure timely action, appropriate management support, and achievement of expected benefits. Uses appropriate measurement, analysis and evaluation methods to accurately identify and document process improvements
• Develops reports of overall Lean Manufacturing activities including accomplishments, participation, projected activities, and anticipated needs.
• Coordinates with related departments and functions to assure appropriate information flow and understanding of overall process improvement direction
• Be involved in the annual business planning and budgeting of the manufacturing plant within assigned region
• Demonstrate the ability to challenge the status-quo and encourage break-through thinking to ensure Lean Manufacturing principles are implemented.
• Ensure LPA is performed as per schedule, follow up to close all outstanding issues within a reasonable time frame
• Provide regular constructive feedback and communication to subordinates and other departments formally and informally on company policies, work procedures and work standards etc. and to ensure adherence to all policies and procedures at all times
• To make recommendation to Senior Management and Human Resources Manager on the confirmation and/or disposition of employees within the probationary period
• Provide management reports and documentation of key measurable as required
• Maintain a system of communicating ongoing departmental performance to subordinates on a regular basis
• Ensure good housekeeping for the department and that all areas responsible are tidy and organized at all times
• Remain up to date on latest trends in lean manufacturing through benchmarking and participation in various Lean consortiums.
• Ensure subordinates follow Company policies on Health, Safety & Environment and PPE requirements
• Quantities measurables:
• Oversee department of approximately 1-3 people
• Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards and legislation including Environmental Legislation, O. Reg 851 for Industrial Establishments, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act (with emphasis on Section 28, (1) (a)-(d), (2) (a)-(c))
• Abide by all Company polices including, but not limited to the following: Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, Human Resources policies, and the Martinrea Employee Handbook
• 30% office, 70% plant floor (PPE required)

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to lift up to 35lbs.
• Must be able to work with push pull forces of up to 50lbs. or less

Health and Safety:

• Must work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations, Company and plant rules, policies and procedures
• Must use or wear Personal Protective Equipment and certain clothing as required by the Company
