Job summary

Summit Polymers in Vicksburg, Michigan is seeking an Engineer, Manufacturing (SLMS) to lead and improve plant operations using the Summit Lean Manufacturing System. The role emphasizes hands-on floor leadership and cross-functional collaboration with production teams.

The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, project management experience, and proficiency with Microsoft Excel. Travel is occasional and the position reports to the General Manager.

Qualifications

• Possesses the ability to gather and analyze information and make decisions from a limited number of choices.
• Ability to effectively communicate and coach all levels from plant floor operators to plant management.
• Microsoft office products including Excel and Word.
• A minimum score on the Wonderlic Select Assessment is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation of SLMS in all areas of thefacility.
• Conduct routine SLMS audits and lead kaizen activities.
• Analyze manufacturing methods for process improvement, work balance and cost reduction.
• Teach SLMS principles to plant employees from floor to management.
• Lead and manage projects with independent decision-making on the shop floor.
• Develop and maintain plant floor layouts.
• Occasional travel to other SPI plants.
• Understand SLMS theory and application in all aspects.
• Identify and eliminate waste throughout the plant.
• Coach others to learn SLMS by doing and combine classroom with shop floor learning.
