Job summary

Astec is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer focused on identifying waste and improving safety, quality, and productivity through lean methodologies in Chattanooga, TN. You'll partner with manufacturing, engineering, quality, OpEx, PMO, and safety teams to develop efficient, repeatable processes and lead capital projects.

The role includes designing for manufacturability, leading cross-functional events, supporting new product introductions, and delivering plant KPIs while ensuring safety and cost

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
• Minimum 3 years in manufacturing with heavy machinery experience.
• Strong knowledge of LEAN methods in manufacturing.
• Experience with DFM and VAVE concepts is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identify safety, quality, productivity, and cost improvements using lean tools.
• Lead cross-functional events to reduce waste and optimize material flow.
• Develop standard work and visual controls for sustainable improvements.
• Drive CI activities aligned with plant KPIs.
• Collaborate on DFM and VAVE improvements.
• Support new product introductions through process planning.
• Lead capital equipment projects including budgeting and timelines.
• Prepare business cases with ROI and risk assessments.
• Lead project execution from kickoff to handoff.
• Develop equipment concepts and supplier RFQs.
• Lead FAT/SAT, installation, and validation.
• Analyze workforce utilization and space requirements.
• Estimate production times and capacity; inform management decisions.
• Apply statistical methods to forecast manufacturing requirements.
• Transition NPI from engineering to manufacturing.
• Maintain manufacturing process work instructions.
• Specify equipment and fixtures to meet quality.
• Prepare and present to stakeholders using MS Office.
• Follow safety policies and company procedures.
• Perform special projects as assigned.
