Job summary

Birdon America Inc. in Bayou La Batre, Alabama is seeking a Shipfitting Lead to join our growing team. You will oversee shipfitters on projects, ensure quality, and drive safe work practices.

This full-time role requires strong welding and leadership skills, experience with vessel panels, blueprints, and working knowledge of readings; the company offers a full benefits package.

Qualifications

• Experience in ship/boat building welding aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel.
• Experience with assembly and erection of vessel panels, subassemblies and components.
• Proficiency in shipfitting, pipe fitting, shipfitting supervision and economics of shipbuilding.
• Must be able to read blue prints and weld schedules, maintains designed dimensional accuracy
• Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
• Must be able to stand, bend, stoop, squat or kneel regularly as well as climb stairs and ladders to complete tasks.

Responsibilities

• Must be able to tack, distribute heat evenly with a clean bead.
• Must be able to pass the pre-employment testing.
• Excellent math skills with ability to read a tape measure accurately.
• Ability to properly repair a defective work.
• Ability to operate safety equipment and use safe work habits, coaching and instilling these in workers.
• Must be able to operate power tools (grinders, saws, and drills) and assigned welding process equipment.
• Demonstrates leadership skills, quality driven initiatives.
• Responsible for day to day oversight of shipfitters on projects, inspects worker efforts for quality and performance.
• Ensures directives given by Foremen/Superintendents are fulfilled.
• Evaluates performance of team members.
• Serves as backup for their Shipfitting Foreman in their absence.
