Job summary

Birdon America, Inc. is seeking a Marine Painter to perform sandblasting, painting, and coating applications on-site. The candidate will test and document coating data and plan work details to meet MIL thickness specifications.

Ideal applicants have 1+ year experience in marine/aviation/automotive coatings, can read blueprints, and work safely in physically demanding environments.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of spray, brush, and roller painting in marine/aviation/automotive sectors.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints/drawings for job tasks.
• Experience with epoxy and non-epoxy coatings preferred.
• Comfort working in physically demanding environments and heights.
• Ability to follow directions and work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Perform sandblasting, painting, and coating applications per MIL specs.
• Test and record coating process data; ensure proper documentation.
• Plan work sequences, tool, material, and personnel needs.
• Maintain clean, safe work area; comply with environmental rules.
• Complete tasks on time and within budget; perform other duties as assigned.
• Cross-train in other marine crafts as needed.

This position is located On-site in Portland, CT

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Perform sandblasting, painting, and other coating applications. Coating applications will be to MIL thickness specifications
• Test, record and understand all pertinent information regarding the coating application process
• Plan details of working procedures to accomplish task and plan out tool, material, and personnel requirements.
• Perform all functions in a careful and safe manner while always keeping an eye out for others in the area.
• Keep equipment and work area clean and organized. Ensure proper adherence to environmental requirements when performing the sandblasting or application process.
• Perform tasks on time and under budget.
• Perform other company duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Skills / Experience:

• Minimum of 1 years’ experience as a spray, brush, and roller painter, of epoxy and non-epoxy coatings in the marine/yacht, aviation, or automotive industries
• Must work well in a team environment
• Must be able to perform basic tasks with hand tools; Must be able to use, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment and power tools
• Ability to read blueprints, and drawings for tasks specific to a job
• Ability to follow directions and work independently
• Experience working with vinyl application preferred
• Experience laying out non-skid decking
• Experience Caulking and finishing e.g. Sika wiping
• Experience in working in a physically demanding environment, confined spaces, working at heights, and usage of respiratory protective equipment (respirator fit test and safety training required)
• Familiarity with a variety of sandblasting media and coating application materials
• Willingness to be cross trained in other marine crafts activities
• Confidentiality, tact, and discretion when dealing with people
• Detail oriented while able to continuously improve efficiency
