Job summary

HNTB in Indianapolis, IN is seeking a lead construction inspector to oversee daily field activities on private development projects in central Indiana. You will manage a team of inspectors, review contractor progress, and ensure compliance with plans, specs, and schedules.

This role combines technical inspection work with staff mentoring, report writing, and coordination with contractors, with a focus on accuracy in daily logs, quantity verification, and pay estimate reviews.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent and 9 years of construction-related experience.
• All required jurisdictional certificates and state requirements.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, observes, documents, and verifies work in progress by the construction contractor to ensure compliance with project schedule, contract documents and plans.
• Advises Contractor superintendent of necessary actions to ensure conformance with plan, specs, and contract. Reviews and resolves quantity disputes with contractor.
• Utilizes engineering inspection practices to perform sophisticated and complicated mathematical calculations, constructability and biddability reviews, and measurements of completed work to date.
• Reviews Inspector's daily report of assigned work activities, contractor labor and equipment, quantity of material received and verified.
• Performs on-site material testing and produces as-constructed sketches
• Recruits, hires, develops and retains staff, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession. Coordinates schedules and approves timecards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
