Job summary

City of Grand Rapids seeks a Water Treatment Plant Operator to ensure proper operation of a water treatment and pumping plant and its districtwide distribution system on an assigned shift. You will receive phone calls and work directly with contractors, engineers, and staff mechanics to implement system maintenance and breakdown mitigation.

Required: high school diploma or GED and four years of related water treatment experience, or an equivalent combination.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Four (4) years of work experience related to water treatment activities.
• Equivalent training/education/experience acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Provides qualitative and quantitative analysis of treated water and monitors levels per EGLE guidelines.
• Operates water distribution and filtration system.
• Monitors water quality, adjusts chemical feed rates, and communicates changes to plant workers.
• Maintains plant records and creates work orders; updates log book.
• Identifies equipment problems and determines remediation steps.
• Monitors distribution system and enters data.
• Monitors plant security and grants access to locations within the plant.
• Acts as lead worker and assigns tasks.
