Job summary

Chesterfield County Department of Utilities is seeking a Principal Labor Crew Chief to lead a repair and maintenance crew responsible for the county’s water distribution system. The role includes supervising heavy equipment operators and utility workers, ensuring safety, and meeting departmental goals.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, leadership experience, and a Class A CDL; overtime and on-call duties are part of the schedule. Uniforms and PPE are provided by the county.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and two years in water distribution operation or related field with leadership experience.
Knowledge of general maintenance/construction practices for water distribution systems.
Good communication and customer relations skills; ability to use hand tools such as shovels and picks.

Responsibilities

Supervise the repair to county systems.
Complete work orders associated with the work performed.
Ensure safety guidelines are followed.
Perform annual reviews of employees.
Repair, replace, and install water service lines ¾”–2” and mains up to 48” and hydrants/valves.
Perform other work as required.
