Job summary

The City of Kinston is seeking a qualified Laboratory Supervisor to manage the wastewater treatment plant laboratory. You will oversee chemical, biological, and microbiological testing to ensure compliance with permits and safety standards.

Your role includes supervising staff, maintaining state certifications, and generating regulatory reports. Ability to interpret complex test results and coordinate with plant operators is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, environmental science or related field with laboratory experience.
• Some supervisory experience preferred.
• Possession of North Carolina Wastewater Operator Grade I certification within 12 months of hire is required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and operate a state-certified laboratory for wastewater analysis.
• Review results and communicate problems to operators and supervisors.
• Conduct routine and specialized tests (pH, alkalinity, BOD, TSS, nitrates, metals, fecal coliform, PFAS) and interpret results.
• Maintain inventory of chemicals, reagents, and supplies; order as needed.
• Ensure quality control of equipment; calibrate instruments and maintain state certification.
