Operates and supervises operation of City’s wastewater treatment plants. Reports to the Chief Operator or Utility Manager if Chief Operator is unavailable.
- Plans, organizes, and implements activities and special projects in their assigned plant(s).
- Supervises and guides work of plant personnel.
- Supervises and coordinates ongoing training of plant personnel.
- Monitors and inspects work in progress.
- Inspects, calibrates, and interprets gauges, meters, and control panels.
- Performs tests; makes adjustments to chlorinators.
- Modifies or adjusts work methods, assignments, and crew sizes.
- Sets the prototype employee work example to promote a congenial and productive work environment.
- Assists with the initial evaluation of employees under Chief Operator’s direction to provide documents and coordination of any positive reinforcement or discipline actions as required by City Policy.
- Reads and interprets diagrams, sketches, and blueprints.
- Determines the need for equipment repairs and supervises repairs.
- Answers complaints from the public.
- Keeps the facility in permit compliance and responds to regulatory agency inquiries.
- Supervises regulatory compliance of plant operations.
- Assists and cooperates with contractors and other municipal departments.
- Orders plant supplies and equipment.
- Supervises and maintains sampling protocols.
- Prepares, collects, organizes, and analyzes data for departmental and regulatory agency reports.
- Coordinates the draft and submittal of regulatory agency reports (MORs, CCRs, & DMRs) under the Chief Operator’s supervision.
- Responds to the emergency operation of treatment facilities.
- Makes recommendations on repair and maintenance work.
- May drive and operate departmental equipment.
- Works on-call on a rotation basis on weekends, nights, holidays, and emergencies.
- Cleans trucks, warehouse, and storage yard. Maintains properties as needed: mowing, trimming, painting, irrigation, minor repairs, etc.
- Performs related functions as assigned.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a high school diploma or GED with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in wastewater plant operations is required.
- Must have a Florida Class B Wastewater Operator license or the ability to obtain a Class B License within 6 months of eligible FDEP minimum “B” qualifying training requirements.
- CDL Class “B” preferred or willing to obtain within 6 months.
- Valid Florida Driver's License.
- A comparable amount of education and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
- Complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within 6 months of the completion of the probationary period.
