This is supervisory and technical work in the operation of a municipal water/wastewater reclamation treatment plant and auxiliary facilities. Incumbent must schedule and distribute available resources to provide effective, efficient plant operation. Assignments are received orally and in writing. All work is performed under the general direction of the division superintendent.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize and direct daily operation of a water or wastewater treatment plant.
- Plan, assign, and supervise the work of plant operations and support team members. Train personnel on process control, operational protocols, equipment operation, and safety practices.
- Determine operational status of equipment, coordinate repairs, and report hazardous situations.
- Manage daily water distribution and coordinate with field personnel. Oversee residual/biosolids program to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Prepare and maintain plant records and reports for regulatory inspections. Inspect equipment and maintain inventory of supplies.
- Supervise team performance, conduct evaluations, and hold meetings to communicate policies and procedures.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
- Knowledge of water/wastewater treatment principles, equipment, SCADA systems, and laboratory procedures.
- Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to develop training, analyze technical problems, and exercise independent judgment.
- Effective communication skills and ability to establish working relationships.
- Knowledge of Florida DEP regulations.
- Leadership and supervisory capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Water operator Class “B” license (must obtain Class “A” within one year).
- 3-5 years of responsible water/wastewater experience.
- Valid Florida Driver’s license.
- State of Florida “A” Certified Water or Wastewater Operator license (or ability to obtain within one year).
- Ability to respond to calls within 30 minutes.
- Work schedule may include odd hours, weekends, and emergency call-outs.
Physical Requirements:
Climbing stairs/ladders, using tools and equipment, reading, communicating, operating a vehicle, entering confined spaces, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in adverse weather conditions.
