Job summary

Obvio Inc. is opening a Salt Lake City office and seeks a Video Data Annotation Team Lead to manage and mentor the annotation team while staying hands-on in workflows. You will review video footage, coach annotators, and help scale operations with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.

The role emphasizes player-coach responsibilities, onboarding, calibration, and process improvements in a rapidly growing startup that aims to enhance traffic safety through AI-enabled annotation workflows.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years in data annotation, QA, operations, trust & safety or similar high-volume, detail-oriented environment.
• Prior leadership experience in team lead, senior IC, trainer, QA, or mentorship.
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to spot small inconsistencies.
• Ability to make judgment calls when rules don’t fit neatly.
• Able to give direct, constructive feedback without friction.
• Comfortable holding teammates accountable to quality and productivity.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Fast learner with tools and tech-driven workflows.
• Proactive in surfacing issues and fixing them.
• Experience with data labeling, AI/ML ops, video review, regulated workflows is a plus.
• Startup experience is a plus; adaptive to evolving processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day video annotation team in Salt Lake City and coordinate with California office.
• Onboard and train new annotators; explain tools, workflows, and guidelines.
• Coach team on accuracy, productivity, and consistency; give actionable feedback.
• Review difficult or ambiguous traffic events with the team.
• Conduct quality checks and identify recurring issues needing training.
• Run calibration sessions to ensure consistent guideline application.
• Monitor workload and queues; flag capacity or performance bottlenecks.
• Escalate edge cases and operational issues.
• Maintain SOPs, training materials, and reviewer docs.
