Job summary

Obvio AI in Salt Lake City is seeking a Video Data Annotation Team Lead to build and manage our annotation team. This player-coach role blends hands-on video review with mentorship to ensure high-quality outputs and consistent guideline application.

You will onboard new annotators, review difficult cases, run calibration sessions, maintain SOPs, and partner with our California office to scale operations while upholding safety-focused standards.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of experience in data annotation or a related high-volume, detail-oriented environment.
• Prior leadership experience as a team lead, senior IC, trainer, QA specialist, or informal mentor.
• Exceptional attention to detail; you notice small inconsistencies others miss.
• Able to give direct, constructive feedback without creating conflict.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of clear guidance.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of Video Data Annotators in Salt Lake City and collaborate with the California office.
• Onboard and train new annotators, ensuring understanding of tools, workflows, quality standards, and escalation processes.
• Coach team on accuracy, productivity, and consistency; provide clear, actionable feedback when needed.
• Review difficult or ambiguous traffic events and help annotators determine the correct outcome.
• Conduct quality checks and identify recurring mistakes or training gaps.
• Run or participate in calibration sessions to ensure consistent guideline application.
• Monitor workload and queues, flag capacity or performance issues, and prioritize work.
• Escalate recurring edge cases, unclear guidelines, and operational issues.
• Maintain SOPs, training materials, and reviewer documentation as processes evolve.
• Review and annotate video footage to identify traffic events and potential violations.
• Accurately record and verify detailed information extracted from video content.
• Stay close to the annotation work to identify where reviewers struggle and where workflows can improve.
• Model the level of accuracy, judgment, and productivity expected from the team.
• Provide feedback on annotation tooling and workflows based on day-to-day experience.
• Partner with leadership to test and implement process improvements as the organization scales.
