Job summary

Winsted Hospital for Animals seeks an experienced Lead Veterinary Technician to join our leadership team and drive clinical excellence. You'll mentor a high-performing team, collaborate with veterinarians and leadership, and shape patient care standards through coaching and process improvements.

The role emphasizes leading by example, developing others, and advancing workflows while maintaining compassionate client communication and top-tier medical care.

Qualifications

  • CVT/LVT/RVT credential preferred or eligible to meet state requirements.
  • 3–5 years of progressive veterinary technician experience.
  • Previous leadership, mentoring, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Strong surgical, anesthesia, patient nursing, and technical skills.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Experience helping develop team members and improve workflows.
  • Confidence making decisions with a collaborative leadership style.
  • Experience with Avimark is a plus.
  • Passion for developing others while delivering exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Lead by example with exceptional patient nursing and technical care.
  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, surgeries, dentistry, and advanced procedures.
  • Induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia patients.
  • Perform venipuncture, IV catheter placement, radiography, lab work, and sample collection.
  • Maintain accurate medical records and high clinical standards.
  • Mentor, coach, and support technicians and assistants.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new team members.
  • Provide constructive feedback to help teammates build skills.
  • Partner with doctors to improve workflow and hospital operations.
  • Support OSHA compliance, inventory management, and equipment maintenance.
  • Promote Fear Free and compassionate client communication.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative hospital culture.
