Job summary

Charlotte Street Animal Hospital in Asheville, NC is seeking a Lead Veterinary Assistant to guide the medical support team, model our values, and mentor the next generation of veterinary professionals. You will lead shifts, support veterinarians, maintain medical records, and ensure infection control while delivering compassionate care to dogs, cats, and exotics.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong ability to lead by example, motivate others, and stay composed under pressure.
• Proficiency in veterinary assistant duties, including patient handling and client communication.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work with a wide range of animals and handle up to 50 pounds.
• 7+ years of Veterinary Assistant experience preferred.
• 3+ years of leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the shift, coordinate workflow, and ensure adequate staff coverage.
• Mentor and support veterinary technicians and assistants with onboarding and development.
• Identify workflow gaps and partner with management to implement solutions.
• Support veterinarians in patient care, maintain medical records, and uphold infection control.
• Enhance client experience from scheduling to discharge instructions and estimates.
• Maintain hospital cleanliness, organization, and safety, upholding protocols.
