Job summary

Charlotte Street Animal Hospital in Asheville, NC is seeking a Lead Veterinary Assistant to join a dedicated medical support team. You will help manage patient care and hospital operations, serving as a bridge between leadership and frontline staff.

You will lead shifts, mentor technicians and assistants, improve workflows, support patients and ensure accurate records. The role emphasizes high-quality care for dogs, cats, and exotics with on-site Urgent and Emergency care capabilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven leadership abilities and ability to guide a team.
• Experience as a Veterinary Assistant; ability to handle variety of animals.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
• 7+ years of Veterinary Assistant experience preferred.
• 3+ years of leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Leading the Shift: coordinate workflow, assign tasks, and ensure staffing coverage.
• Mentoring the Team: mentor and support veterinary technicians and assistants.
• Driving Improvements: identify gaps in workflows and implement solutions with hospital leadership.
• Supporting Patient Care: assist veterinarians, maintain medical records, and uphold infection control standards.
• Enhancing Client Experience: provide exceptional client support, from scheduling to discharge instructions and estimates.
• Maintaining Standards: keep the hospital clean, organized, and compliant with protocols and equipment maintenance.
