Job summary

Animal Medical Center San Rafael is seeking an experienced Lead Veterinary Assistant to join our supportive team. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, loves pets, and thrives in a fun environment.

The role offers hourly pay starting at $22.00 - $28.00 per hour with benefits including a $250 sign-on bonus, CE support, annual uniform allowance, professional license reimbursement, and flexible scheduling (8 hour shifts, Monday–Saturday).

Qualifications

• 3+ years clinical experience as a veterinary assistant or receptionist.
• Knowledge of industry tools and equipment.
• Passion for working with animals and their owners.
• Experience with proper animal handling and restraint.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Obtain accurate and thorough medical histories.
• Perform basic exam procedures.
• Venipuncture (cephalic, saphenous, jugular).
• Digital radiology (X-ray) positioning.
• Comfortable with monitoring general anesthesia and surgical assistance.
• Laboratory skills including microscope; IDEXX in-house laboratory.
• Excellent client communication/education.
• Adaptable to working with doctors and team.

Responsibilities

• Assist doctors and team as Lead Veterinary Assistant.
• Support exams, anesthesia monitoring, and surgical procedures.
• Perform venipuncture and basic lab work with IDEXX.
• Maintain accurate medical histories and client communications.
• Ensure safe animal handling and restraint; coordinate with staff.
• Provide compassionate care and educate clients.
• Participate in CE programs and professional development.

Animal Medical Center San Rafael is currently looking to hire an experienced Lead Veterinary Assistant to join our team! The ideal candidate will be a dependable, detail-oriented team player who loves pets and being part of a fun, supportive team.

The hourly pay range for this position starts at $22.00 - $28.00 per hour; this varies depending on experience, education, certifications, and location.

• Additional $250.00 sign-on bonus!

• Continuing Education (CE) support

• Annual Uniform allowance

• Professional License reimbursement

• Flexible scheduling - 8 hour shift length (Monday - Saturday)

Who You Are:

• 3+ years clinical experience as a veterinary assistant or receptionist

• Obtain accurate and thorough medical histories

• Comfortable with monitoring general anesthesia and surgical assistance preferred
• Laboratory skills including microscope (ear and fecal cytology); IDEXX in-house laboratory
• Excellent client communication/education
• Adaptable to working well with current doctors and team members
